Medically Vamped

I didn’t draw anything today (yet, I’m pretty obsessive) because I spent a good part of the day undergoing another needling at the behest of my doctor. She was concerned about the appearance of a largish node on my thyroid that showed up on the CT Scan of my lungs last year. So I dutifully reported today for an ultrasound and needle biopsy at Redwood radiology in Santa Rosa.

Took my book along because I really didn’t know what to expect. Turned out that was a good idea because (a) it’s a really good book and (b) I was there from 12:15 to 3:30, with time off for a quick fish taco at Sonoma Taco.

The experience was fine because the doctor and his assistant were nice, informative, gentle folks and I was a great patient, wise-cracking while they stuck a needle into my neck five times for each of the two nodes on either side of my thyroid. Sounds a lot worse than it actually was. They make you stick around for a while after the procedure so I got to get into some really good parts of my book (“The Twelve” by Justin Cronin, a sequel to “The Passage”) before they gave me the OK to go home.

I won’t find out the lab results until tomorrow afternoon, but I heard some comments from the doctor that lead me to believe that I’m just an old dude with a goiter, and that’s not such a bad thing. What is bad is the following picture of me after my friendly vampirization.

Still rolling.

Still rolling.
