If you are a lifetime rock and roller, and more particularly a fan of the San Francisco sound as personified in the music of Jefferson Airplane and the vocal talents of Grace Slick, you will be happy to know that she has developed another skill set and reinvented herself as a fine artist. And a very fine artist she is. Not straying far from the visual milieu of her early success, her paintings are composed of the images from her songs and panoramas of classic performances and the cast of musical characters who populated her world. I was pleased to run across her show at the NorCal Modern Gallery in Healdsburg and you can see it too from now until May 26th. If you want to rub elbows with the old broad herself, she’ll be there in person at 9PM on the evening of May 18th. Here are some samples of what you can see up closer and more personal at the NorCal Modern, 115 Plaza Street, Healdsburg.

And here’s a bonus portrait of Mick by another artist who shall remain nameless. There were also a couple of paintings from Ronnie Wood hanging around the gallery.

  1. Jack Bertram says:

It’s nice to see these. I didn’t know she painted. Why don’t I know these things? My mind was blown in the sixties and I can’t get it back.
