What I like about “Dr. Sleep” in fifty words or less, plus a couple of pictures, and by the way, the words in the title don’t count, so let me use this space to say this is about the Stephen King book and that it is a sequel to “The Shining”.

This book has a sympathetic cast of supporting characters, friends, family and coworkers who aid and abet the protagonists, Dan (a grown up Danny, from “The Shining”, now Dr. Sleep) and Abra, a feisty young teen with massive quantities of the “shine”, in their attempts to avoid the clutches of a villainous cabal of RV owners who travel the heartland reaping “shiners”. I can say no more. Except maybe that the evil personages are sympathetic too, a lovable Adams Family of sometimes vulnerable, white trash “shine” vampires.
If you liked “The Shining” and are a King fan, you’ll have plenty to enjoy in this book. If you are unfamiliar with the source material you still might enjoy it. Hypercritical snob types beware. If you are an anal word counter go ahead, knock yerself out. Oh, by the way, the nexus of evil in this story is as beautiful as Scarlett Johanssen and wears a top hat.
